1、 What is hypophosphite
Phosphorous acid is an inorganic acid with the chemical formula H3PO2, also known as hypophosphite or hydrogen hypophosphite. It has a similar structure to phosphoric acid, but only one hydroxyl group, making it a lower level phosphate.
2、 Acidity of Phosphorous Acid
Phosphorous acid has weak acidity and only partially dissociates in water to produce H2PO2 ‾ and H3O+. This is because there is a strong hydrogen bonding between the hydroxyl and acid groups (H2PO2 ‾) of hypophosphite, which results in a lower degree of ionization of H2PO2 ‾, thereby weakening the acidity of hypophosphite.
